English cherries are hugely superior to imported cherries but are only in season until August. They can however be frozen to enjoy all year round - if you have the will power to keep them that long!
We love eating raw cherries but they are also great in cakes, desserts, ice cream and jam. Try poaching cherries in wine to serve with ice cream or macerate in good quality balsamic vinegar to accompany a rich savoury mousse or pâté. Fresh cherries are surprisingly delicious with creamy goats' cheese.
