GUEST BLOG: Katie Stone from Featherstone's English Flower Co.

Hello, it is Katie from Featherstone’s English Flower Company writing on the Local Zero Blog today!

Katie Stone from Featherstone's Flower Farm featuring on the Local Zero Guest Blog Festive foliage just perfect for a Christmas place setting.

As the Local Zero Team are launching their gorgeous Christmas Hampers packed full of locally sourced sustainable treats, I wanted to share some ideas for the place setting foliage we have included in the hamper (which can also be purchased separately) or our bunches of sustainable festive foliage, which contain a mixture of fir and eucalyptus.

Within the hamper you will find a posy of seasonal foliage, perfect for decorating your Christmas Table. We have included a few pheasant feathers and a ruby red ribbon to complete the festive feeling.

To keep your foliage looking fresh for Christmas Day, you may want to recut the ends of the Eucalyptus and pop these in a jam jar with a little bit of water in the bottom. The firs will absolutely fine out of water until the big day but would prefer being kept somewhere cool.

There will be enough foliage to create at least 8 place settings as we have shown below – but please let your creativity run free if you wish to add any other foliage or seed heads that you might have in the garden.

To make these place settings simply create individual, little bundles of foliage (and a feather if they take your fancy!) and tie with a section of the ribbon. You could write guests names on a brown kraft luggage label to keep within the natural theme and tuck this in next to the foliage.

Adding pinecones, candles, orange slices and natural fabrics such as hessian or linen can really help to create a magical wintery display on your Christmas Table.

The foliage can also be used as part of your Christmas wrapping – adding a pop of colour if you choose to use plain brown kraft paper and twine (recyclable paper and compostable twine of course!).
